Jora reviews Power, water and ration supply scenario in Jammu

jammu, May 20:The Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution (CA&PD) Department has dispatched advance two month ration to the earthquake affected areas of erstwhile Doda district.
The information was given at a meeting chaired by the Minister for Urban Development, Nawang Rigzin Jora, convened to review the functioning of PDD, PHE, CA&PD, Police, JMC, JDA and other services departments, here today.
The Minister, who is here to attend the Summer Secretariat, reviewed in detail the stock and supply position of the ration in the region.
Seeking the details, the Minister asked the Director, CA&PD to make sure that ration was distributed among the people, particularly in the earthquake affected areas of erstwhile Doda district. In this regard, he called for holding regular inspection of the sale depots to check black-marketing.
Reviewing the Power and water supply scenario, the Minister asked the Power Development Department (PDD) to mobilize the field staff to check illegal connections and unwanted power load to avoid inconvenience to the people due to breakdowns.
Mr Jora called for maintaining extra vigil to thwart the misuse of power and asked the PDD functionaries to be quick in responding to the public complaints.
The meeting was attended by Inspector General of Police, Jammu, Additional Commissioner, Jammu, DC Jammu, Vice Chairman JDA, Commissioner JMC, Chief Engineer UEED, Chief Engineer M&RE, Superintendent Engineer M&RE, other senior officers of various departments.
Chief Engineer (CE) M&RE, disclosed that the present power scenario was stable and the department was supplying power as per the set schedule. The CE also informed that the department was making every effort to avoid damages to the transformers and other power infrastructure by undertaking regular inspections.
The Police functionaries assured every possible help to curb the menace of power theft by sending teams with the PDD checking squads. .
The Minister stressed on the need to launch a mass awareness campaign to educate the people about the judicious use of power and its shortfall due to extreme hot weather conditions prevailing across the country.
Chief Engineer, PHE disclosed that at present department is providing water to every area of Jammu on regular basis, while many areas are also being supplied water through tankers.
The meeting was also informed that proposed project for augmentation of water supply by lifting water from Chenab River was also under active consideration of the department.
The Minister asked PHE and PDD to formulate a comprehensive plan envisaging the crucial requirements, including creation of adequate infrastructure for successful execution of Chenab Water Supply Scheme.
“The PHE shall discuss the plan in detail with the PDD to remove the hurdles hampering the execution of the prestigious scheme”, the Minister asserted.
The Minister also reviewed the civic facilities in Jammu city and asked JMC and JDA to ensure better civic amenities, particularly regular lifting of garbage, cleanliness and maintenance of drainage system in all localities to avoid unhygienic conditions .
