Altaf reviews progress of various road projects in Kangan constituency

SRINAGAR, June 2 : Work on 2 vital bridges namely, Wussan and Ramwari Gund would commence this year. These bridges on completion would provide road connectivity to a large population living in the hilly areas of Kangan constituency. To improve the road connectivity in the area, detailed project reports (DPRs) of seven roads have been prepared and will be sent to the Central Government for funding.
This information was given to the Minister for Forests Ecology and Environment, Mian Altaf Ahmad during a meeting of officers, which was held here to review the progress of various road projects coming up in Kangan constituency. Minister for R&B, Mr. Abdul Majeed Wani was also present on this occasion.
Underlining the need for maintaining inter-departmental coordination, Mian Altaf asked the officers of Roads and Buildings Department to settle all land acquisition and compensation cases at the earliest so that work on the projects could be started at the earliest without any hindrance. The meeting was told that work on Rs. 15.11 crore Yach-hama and Akhal bridge projects is in progress for which Rs. 2.35 crore stands released so far while the macadamization of Yach-hama, Akhal and Chattergul roads will be completed during current season.
The meeting was further informed that seven road projects under Prime Minister’s Gram Sadak Yojna (PMGSY), which included 2.50 km Dardpati, 1.50 km Gujjarpati, 2 km Bhat Mohalla, 2 km Gujjarparti II, 1.50 km Upper basti, 3 km Sheikhpora and 3 km Gitchkhud for providing road connectivity to left over habitations of the constituency have been framed and are being forwarded to the Central Government for funding. It was informed that Rs. 9.75 crore are being spent on different road projects, taken up under PMGSY in the constituency, while some of them are expected to be completed during this year. Rs. 35.49 crore have been expended under the programme so far, it was told.
Mr. Abdul Majeed Wani instructed engineers to speed up work on Yach-hama bridge coming up over Nallah Sindh and directed for undertaking a survey of the constituency to cover all left out habitations for road connectivity.
The Minister instructed them to settle the land compensation cases expeditiously and take necessary assistance from Deputy Commissioner in resolving the issues. He said sufficient funds have been kept at the disposal of deputy commissioner to meet the expenditure on this account.
Commissioner Secretary, R&B, Chief Engineers of R&B and PMGSY, Managing Director, JKPCC, besides senior officers of R&B and PMGSY departments were present on the occasion.
