BUDGAM: A daylong visit of Pisciculture farms of district Budgam was conducted by District Development Commissioner, Budgam, Mr. Khurshid Ahmed Shah. Several farms owned and run by natives were visited in Kadlabal Naslapora, Mulshulah Beerwah, Hardepanzoo, Zanigam and Rehyaar. On an average a trout raceway yields 6-7 quintals of fish annually and carp farm produces 4-5 quintals. On the occasion, Assistant Director, Fisheries, Mr. Muneer Ahmad Wani informed the District Development Commissioner that the yearly production of trout and carp in Budgam has gone upto 9,600 Kgs and 20,000 Kgs respectively and the department wholly sponsors the cost of setting up a fish farm by providing an assistance of Rs. 1,20,000 to Rs. 1,50,000 to anyone who owns a piece of land and is ready to set up the farm. While interacting with fish farmers, District Development Commissioner received a feedback of the Fisheries department. Two farms owned by the department were also visited in Gogaldara, 9 km from Doodhpathri where the crop was ready for sale. As many as 5 trout raceways and one carp pond were constructed this year in the district taking the total number of fish farms to 61. |
