| Sham inspects various development works on both sides of River Jhelum | | Directs for speedy completion of works | | Early Times Report SRINAGAR : Minister for PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control Mr. Sham Lal Sharma has directed the officers of Irrigation and Flood Control department to work with utmost dedication and gear up their field functionaries to ensure development of parks and construction of shelter shed on both the sides of River Jhelum. This instruction was given by the Minister during his inspection to various ongoing developmental works under beautification programme from Zero Bridge to Weir Site Chattabal today. The works inspected by the Minister included beautification programme for Dubji Ghatupto HabaKadal, development of Ghat on both side of River Jhelum downstream DubjiGhatup to weir Site, construction of Pedestrian downstream Fateh Kadalup to Mahrajgunj, construction of protection wall on both embankments of River Jhelum and renovation of works at Chattabal. The Minister was informed that Rs.12.5 core are being spent on these projects. He was also informed that the construction work on 5 ghats has been started and work is apace. The Minister directed the executing agencies to speed up the pace of work on all ongoing developmental works and complete them in a stipulated time frame. Speaking to media persons during his tour to weir Site, the Minister said that hundreds of encroachments have been removed and it will be carried forward and the department has been asked to remove all encroachments on both the sides of River Jhelum immediately. He said Government is keen to ensure beautification of River Jhelum adding that it will only be possible when people will support it. He sought cooperation from civil society and said that the Government functionaries and civil society should work in unison. A team of senior officers and engineers from Irrigation and Flood C ontrol department including Chief Engineer Mr. Javeed Jaffar accompanied the Minister during his visit. |
