| 70% villages covered under settlement operation in Kulgam | | Computerized settlement plan on anvil, says Deva | | KULGAM, July 4: The Settlement Commissioner Latief-u-Zaman Deva today pointed out that a computerized settlement plan was in the offing to give fillip to the settlement operation in Jammu and Kashmir. For the purpose, he said a unique software is being developed to accelerate the process of settlement with more efficiency and accuracy. “Once the plan is put into practice fully, the entire operation of settlement will undergo a revolutionary transformation”, he said and added that chhant exercise and writing of Khusra Paimaish will automatically be done away with. Chairing a reviewing meeting of Revenue Officers here, Mr Deva said the plan has already worked as per the idea and design when implemented on experimental basis in Mansbal. To roll out the indigenous and ambitious plan, he said as many 100 ETS machines and 450 laptops are being procured in the first phase, adding the unique software design will help to complete the entire process of settlement within next five years. The Settlement Commissioner took a detailed review of the settlement progress in the district. He exhorted upon the revenue officers to adhere to the timeline of settlement targets and contribute in the preparation of reliable revenue records making devotion and integrity benchmark in the functioning. Mr Deva said the settlement operation is fundamental in the land management system, adding that meticulous preparation of Record of Rights not only facilitates resolution of land disputes but also minimizes land wrangles and conflicts. Earlier, Assistant Commissioner Revenue Gh Hassan Sheikh, who is also Assistant Settlement Officer, gave an overview of the settlement progress of the district. He said of the total 271 villages as many as 186 stand measured and record of rights in respect of 168 villages have been deposited. He said in all 70 % villages have already been covered under the settlement operation, while the exercise is in full swing in remaining villages. |
