| Governor inaugurates new Computer Lab at DAPP Girls High School | | Stresses ensuring every child receives education | | SRINAGAR : Mr. N. N. Vohra, Governor, has emphasized the urgent need for taking all required measures to ensure that every child goes to school and every drop-out case is suitably addressed for achieving the goal of hundred percent literacy within the shortest possible time frame. He expressed sincere hope that given the pace of development in the State this objective would be realized in the near future. The Governor was addressing the School’s Annual Day function after inaugurating a newly established Computer Lab at the Devki Arya Putri Pathshala Girls High School at Hazuri Bagh here today. The Governor referred to the Right to Education and observed that the education of children is of the highest importance, particularly of the girl child, for achieving sustained growth and development. He added that significant progress having been achieved in various spheres there is now very urgent need for one and all to join hands for ensuring that every child receives education. Referring to the Devki Arya Putri Pathshala Girls High School, which has been, since 1910, providing education to girls, particularly those from the less-privileged segments, the Governor impressed upon the teachers and students of this institution to work hard and ensure that the pass percentage of students in the Board examinations goes upto 100% with maximum number of students securing first divisions. He reiterated his firm view that the boys and girls of J&K are highly talented and given an encouraging environment and necessary opportunities they would compete successfully with their counterparts elsewhere in the country. Referring to the various deficiencies faced by the School, as brought out by the Principal, which include demand for allotment of land for the growth of this institution, the Governor observed that this matter would be duly taken up with the Divisional Commissioner. Regarding support for the installation of power back up system in the newly established Computer Lab of the School, for which 10 Computers had been gifted by the Governor, he said that ways and means would be found to also meet this requirement, to facilitate computer education of children. He wished the management, teachers, staff and students a bright future ahead. Earlier, on arrival at the School, the Governor was received by the management, teachers, staff and students. He was presented a Guard of Honour by the NCC Cadets of the School. He went around the Computer Lab and interacted with the concerned teachers about the computer programmes taught to the students. In her welcome address, Mrs. Veena Chandhok, Principal, Devki Arya Putri Pathshala Girls High School, thanked the Governor for taking keen interest in the development of the School and for providing all possible support to it. She expressed her gratitude to the Governor for providing ten Computers for establishing a new Computer Lab. Ms. Samina Nazia, Administrator of the School, presented a Vote of Thanks. Prominent among those present on the occasion were Mr. Navin K. Choudhary, Principal Secretary to the Governor; Mr. Saleem Beig, State Convener INTACH; Dr. Girija Dhar, Members of the Managing Committee of the School, teachers, staff and students. On this occasion, the school children presented a captivating composite cultural programme. |
