| Protests in Bhaderwah against death of kidnapped girl | | | Bhaderwah : Bhaderwah town Monday observed a strike against the death of a kidnapped minor girl whose decomposed body was found yesterday at Nalthi village after ten days of her kidnapping. All business establishments and maximum government offices remained closed and traffic was remained thin on roads. Scores of people mourned in silence the death of the 11-year-old kidnapped and rape victim and demanded stringent punishment agains the culprit. People started gathering at Sari Bazaar and Sartingal village at around 9 am and sat in silence on the joint call given by Anjuman Islamia Bhaderwah and Shri Snathan Dhram Sabha. Anjuman Islamia Bhaderwah President Khariat Hussain Frash joined the protest along with other people at Sari Bazaar and Shri Sanatham Dhram Sabha President Ashok Kotwal joined a protest at Sartingal village. "Her death is a matter of shame and sorrow for all of us. Let's resolve that we will not let her death go in vain. Aren't we all responsible for her death? Can we all now do something so that half of humanity starts feeling safe amongst us?" they said while addressing the gathering of angry protesters. Both leaders alleged that administration was responsible for the kidnapping and rape of the minor girl "as there is no law and order and goons and criminals are roaming freely." They warned police and administration to arrest the accused within 24 hours "if not then they will take law and order of the whole Bhaderwah town in their hands." They said the minor girl, who became the symbol of women's insecurity and their courage, is no more. "This is a moment of grief. This is also a moment of shame. We, as a nation, have failed to provide conditions in which women can lead a normal life without being subjected to indignities. We, as a society, have failed to evolve a culture of respect and equality for women," they said. |
