| Rs. 2.5 crores distributed among jawans in six months | | Prasad reviews Police welfare schemes | | Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, July 15: The Director General of Police (DGP), Mr. Ashok Prasad today said that Jammu and Kashmir Police has launched various schemes for the welfare of its jawans, their families and retired personnel. He said that during first six months of current year Rs. 2.5 crores have been paid to benefit 1108 serving, retired policemen and the families of deceased personnel out of Contributory Police Welfare Fund.
The DGP was reviewing the welfare measures at a meeting held at Police Headquarters (PHQ) today. The meeting was convened to review different welfare schemes for the serving jawans, their families and retired personnel of Jammu and Kashmir Police and their implementation. He asked to enhance various welfare avenues for the families of police personnel and stressed for quick disbursement of welfare relief to the families of the police personnel, who laid down their lives while performing professional duties. He said several schemes have been launched in this regard, adding that Special Contributory Police Welfare Fund is under implementation to provide succor to the families of personnel, who die in-service irrespective of their cause of death.
Mr. Prasad said that since January, 2013 more than Rs. 2.5 crores have been disbursed among the jawans and officers of the organization which include welfare loan and relief to serving personnel, welfare relief to retired personnel and the widows of deceased policemen and financial assistance to families of martyrs for marriage of their daughters.
Detailing different welfare schemes, the DGP said that the organization has been prioritizing the welfare of its personnel and their families by providing financial assistance under various schemes. He said that this relief package has been possible because of the initiation of Central Police Welfare Fund (CPWF) which was started way back in 1983. Since this fund is exclusively generated by monthly contribution from police ranks with no supplementation from government, the relief to the families of such personnel was enhanced from time to time with corresponding increase in monthly contribution, he disclosed.
Mr. Prasad highlighted the significance of contributory fund raised in the police organization to provide relief to the next of kins of deceased police personnel, adding that there was need to further promote this spirit for the overall welfare of force. He reiterated that the organization has been upgrading the health facilities for its personnel and their families, besides providing free education to the wards of police martyrs. In this regard police hospitals at Srinagar and Jammu have been fully equipped with latest diagnostic equipments and treatment. The hospitals are undertaking major surgeries and our personnel do not need to go for such surgeries in other hospitals now, he said. |
