| RTI Movement up in arms against Tosamaidan lease agreement | | | et report
Budgam, Aug 17: To further strengthen the campaign against the extension of Tosamaidan lease agreement which expires in July 2014, meeting of J & K RTI Movement activists with recently constituted Tosmaidan bachav front, civil society members ,Panchayat representatives and Village headmen and other public representatives was held at Khag in District Budgam on 17 August. All the participants pledged to leave no stone unturned for saving Tosamaidan from further devastation.
Chairman J & K RTI Movement, Dr Sheikh Ghulam Rasool assured the people that J & K RTI Movement has formed a fact finding team to collect the data on the destruction caused by Tosamaidan firing range and the same will be made public very soon.
Speaking on the occasion Farooq Kuthoo, Chief Spokesperson J & K RTI Movement extended full support to the recently constituted Tosamaidan Bachave front and demanded Goverment not to allow extension of lease. He further explained how Tosamaidan can save lives and play an important role in not only boosting the economic status of the area but Kahsmir as a whole.
Chairman of the Tosamaidan Bachave front Mohammed Maqbool pledged with people to lead from the front in order to save the virgin medow Tosamaidan. He was accompanied by large number of people of the area who promised to carry the mission forward. Prominent RTI activists Sajad Rasool and Dr Mushtaq Khan who also spoke on the occasion urged civil society, political parties, and international community and human rights organisations to play their part and help in shifting Tosamaidan firing range. |
