Early Times Report
Jammu, Aug 17: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah's speech on 67th Independence Day function at Srinagar targeting some national political parties and accusing them of discriminating with people of Jammu and Kashmir has drawn wide spread criticism with leaders of various social and political organizations also targeting Congress for maintaining stoic silence over the issue.
Leaders of various political parties and social organizations have taken serious exception to CM's speech wherein he chose Independence Day function to target national political parties of discriminating with people of Jammu and Kashmir. He had held out that it is the cause of simmering resentment in Kashmir Valley.
Leaders of these organizations have also not spared Congress for maintaining the stoic silence over the issue saying when the Party took Gujarat Chief Minister Narender Modi to task for using the Independence Day to criticize the Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh and UPA Government headed by him at new Delhi, why it maintained a silence over the speech of Omar Abdullah who also used the occasion to target the BJP and other national political parties in his Independence Day speech.
Why Congress is adopting double standards over the issue when Congress leaders including External Affairs Minister Salman Khursheed and national general secretary Digvijay Singh attacked Modi for criticizing UPA and Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh why did not it also gave a piece of advice to its coalition partner in J&K for using ID function to settle political scores and refrain from giving a new direction to country and state, asked BJYM state president Ravinder Raina
Raina, while taking a dig both at Congress and NC said that Congress was more responsible for J&K situation and giving a long rope to Omar Abdullah whose Government's policies and programmes are proving inimical to the national interest. They all are one in criticizing Modi and finding fault in his policies and programmes but can't find any thing wrong in the functioning of coalition in the State which has been responsible for the worsening law and order situation in J&K.
Supporting Raina, Pritam Sharma of Kranti Dal said that why Omar Abdullah refers to violent incidents in other parts of the country and why father son duo look towards 2002 incidents in Gujarat why do they ignore what happened in Kashmir during 1987 and in 1989-90 when entire minority was forced to flee from Kashmir.
These four lakh hapless people still carve to return to their homes and hearths but Omar Abdullah and his Party still sees a game plan of national parties and Kashmiri minorities in it. Merely claiming to be champion of so-called secularism is not enough, he said, adding the NC coalition should show guts and act to ensure the return of these hapless people to their homes and hearts.
Instead of taking steps in this direction, the CM and his party finds fault in Gujarat Chief Minister Narinder Modi, BJP and other political parties and does not own the responsibility that the Kishtwar violence which was the result of his Party's failure to act in time. Communal violence was aimed to force mass migration of minorities from this hilly belt also.
VHP has also taken a serious exception to CM's speech saying when one Chief Minister has been taken to task for using the Independence Day function for settling political scores even by a senior leader from his own party why it maintained total silence over the Independence Day speech of Omar Abdullah who has been exploiting sentiments of innocent Kashmiris even on the occasion of National festivals.
VHP State president, Dr Rama Kant Dubey while criticizing the Chief Minister said this way, he was trying to vitiate the situation further and exploit the sentiments of the people. If Modi was targeted for his Independence Day speech by Congress and BJP leaders why not Omar Abdullah, he asked?
