| Jammu IGP eats a humble pie at Kishtwar Sulking in anger over delayed police action, minority community refused to meet him | | | Arun Singh Jammu, Aug 17: In what indicates anger and resentment against the government and a delayed police action which resulted in avoidable mayhem in hours , Inspector General of Police (IGP) Jammu zone Rajesh Kumar had to eat a humble pie ay Kishtwar when the minority community refused to meet him during his visit to the trouble torn district. According to sources, when the senior cop few days back went to meet the members of civil society (both the communities)post clashes apparently to take stock of their condition, the members of the minority community who in particular are hurt over delayed police action , boycotted the meeting to express their anguish over the failure of administration to provide adequate security to them. They added that IG Jammu who visited Kishtwar district on August 10, 2013 to take stock of the situation and with a purpose to hold a meeting with people of various communities to discuss the situation arising out of communal violence was left disappointed and dejected. IG intended to take steps to normalize the tense situation but members of minority community skipped the meeting alleging that administration failed to take required steps to avert the trouble. Members of minority community have this grouse that administration utterly failed to provide proper protection in time. a step that would have instilled a sense of security in them. Now after devastation and destruction, there is no point in cops coming to meet the people, they contend while staying away from "Administration did not provide security when we needed it much as government could have averted the violence had it taken the intelligence inputs seriously," said members of the community. They alleged that the violence was pre-planned and an obvious attempt to wipe out minority community from the area. Now government is adopting step motherly behavior in compensating the losses suffered by minority community, , they added. The minority community has also refused to accept Rs 2 lakhs, announced by the state government as immediate relief describing it inadequate. They also demanded licensed weapons for their personal protection. |
