| Incessant rains triggers water woes at SMGS Hospital Jammu | | | et report JAMMU, Aug 17: The continuous rain in Jammu from past couple of day has compounded the miseries for patients and doctors at Shri Maharaja Gulab Singh Hospital (SMGS) resulting into inundation of ground and first floor wards of hospital. "Corridor of the newly built complex of the hospital building was dripping from the last night as the rain water remained continuously trickles down from the cracks developed in the ceiling at the first floor of the building, said Bhushan Sharma an attendant whose child was undergoing treatment in the hospital. A visit to the ward no. 15 and 16 showed worry written large on the faces of the patients who suffered the ordeal. Sources also said water leakage has also affected the sensitive child care zones like Neo-natal Intensive Care Units (NICU) and Paediatrics Intensive Care Unit (PICU). A senior doctor from the SMGS Hospital on the condition of anonymity has apprehended that the wet floors, leakage from ceiling and water logging even in critical care units could adversely affect the child care measures. "That the floors of all child care wards there got wet and slippery, is a sure sign that the building is unhygienic and unsafe for patients and doctors either. Though taking possible measures the hospital authorities have covered the leaking ceiling by plastic sheet as there was no immediate solution to stop leakage," he said. An official with Executive Engineer Medical College Division told that the ongoing repair work on the top floor was stopped halfway because of continuous rain and perhaps unattended cracks are causing leakage from those areas. Regarding the leakage from the newly constructed complex of the hospital, he briefly said, I can't comment as that portion was constructed by JKPCC Department and you better to ask them. |
