JAMMU, Aug 17: A deputation of Jat representatives, led by Manmohan Singh, former Mayor Jammu, and President Jat Mahasabha, J&K today met with Minister for Revenue and Relief, Ajaz Ahmad Khan, here today to convey and discuss, several Jat community issues with the Minister, one time settlement and ownership rights of land to the migrated families, OBC/RBA category. The main issue that was taken up during the meeting was that of the transfer of ownership rights of the land to the displaced families. Manmohan Singh, brought into Minister's attention that more than 70% of the Jat community are refugees and migrated during the times of 1947, 1965, 1971, and the ownership rights of the lands given to them in lieu of their lands, which were given to the cause of wars, have not been transferred yet, which has caused a financial setback to these families, as they cannot benefit from that land unless they are legal owners. It also came as a surprise that many families have not been given their share of land, and these families are still awaiting the Govt to justify their loss and demands. Especially the demand for settlement of land title issue goes back to more than 50 years, seldom any attention has been paid to those families who suffered much due to war, as they were not only forced to leave their native lands, but they were also played by the system, by land being given to many but ownership rights not transferred. The minister heard the representatives very patiently, and assured them that he will be more than willing to help the community with every possible effort he can advance, and to stand in their support when raising the issues with Government. |
