Jammu, Aug 17: Taking serious concerns over the collapse of a rear wall on western side of of the historic Bahu Fort, Social Royal Voluntary Environmental Service (SRVES ), A socio-environmental organization have urged the state government to protect all buildings of state heritage in letter and sprits. Chief Executive Officer (CEO) SRVES Er Mirza Idrees Ul Haq Beigh has urged the state government to not only to repair the collapsed wall of historic Bahu Fort at earliest but also to take due measures to stop its further erosion or collapse. "Bahu fort, centuries old fort was originally built by Raja Bahu Lochan and later was refurbished in Dogra era, it is unfortunate that irrespective of the declared state heritage site by government, ironically a wall of this historic fort crumbled down during recent incessant rains that lashed the Jammu region. He also mentioned that some months ago government of Jammu & Kashmir had planned to spent 6.97 million INR on its conservation & protection, either government is befooling Jammuites or the preservation cum conservation works at ground level are zero. Underlining due initiatives to protect the historic and heritage buildings in state to keep the past alive for the future generations, SRVES has requested Chief Minister of state Omar Abdullah to personally intervene this matter and see if the money allocated for the projects are being spent according to the government planned way or not. "It is really a matter of concern on the one hand government is declaring digitization of manuscripts to preserve cultural heritage while on other hand nothing concrete is done to protect the building of historical importance " |
