Early Times Report Kathua, Aug 18: Pursuing nationwide week long campaign to aware the masses about the menace of the deadly weed "Parthenium" commonly called as "Congress grass" under the aegis of "Directorate of Weed Science Research (ICAR), Jabalpur" a team of scientists from Division of Agronomy of SKUAST-Jammu organized a program at village Sunjama in collaboration with KVK-Kathua which was attended by more than 30 farmers. The team of scientists comprised of Dr. BC Sharma, Professor Agronomy, Dr. Amrish Vaid, Programme Co-ordinator KVK-Kathua, Dr.A.P.Singh, Dr.Brij Nandan, Dr. Brajesh Ajarawat and Dr. Vishal Mahajan. The farmers were educated about the severe threat being posed by this obnoxious weed which has now even started spreading towards their cultivated fields. Besides acquainting the farmers about the various strategies for prevention, control and eradication of this weed to counter this growing danger, the farmers were also educated about the latest know-how about the compost making technique from Parthenium the only beneficial aspect of this growing hazard. The farmers who attended the programme were also provided with relevant literature like pamphlets, leaflets and posters depicting evil effects of Parthenium(Congress grass) published in different languages. The programme ended with vote of thanks by Dilawer Singh, Namberdar of village Sunjawan who also urged for organization of such programmes in future. |
