| Kishtwar remains peaceful during curfew relaxation | | | Asif Iqbal Naik Kishtwar, Aug 17: District administration Kishtwar for the first time in last nine days relaxed curfew for one and half hours in a phased manner. The curfew was relaxed around Bus Stand, Malipath, Gudhali chowk, Old Bus stand and Hidyal Chowk area while in second phase, relaxation was given in Shaheedi Road, Kuleed Chowk, Sangrabata, Sarkoot and Bunastan areas. People were seen purchasing essential commodities during the relaxation. The people also complained about shortage of essential commodities in the district and accused the administration of failure on this front. They said that National highway was closed due to heavy rains and curfew caused dearth of essentialities in the District. People demanded that district administration must ensure transportation of essential commodities and medicines from Jammu. People also demanded extension in relaxation saying one and half hour relaxation was not enough. Many people were also seen return empty handed since there is acute shortage of essentialities. No report of any untoward incident was reported from any part of the District during curfew relaxation. Security forces also remained on high alert to thwart any untoward incident or an attempt to sabotage the peace in the District. While talking to Early times Tanveer Ahmed Mintoo said that shortage of medicine in the District is a matter of great concern. He urged upon the government to ensure supply of medicines and ration in the District so that the people who already feel harassed and depressed due to continuous curfew get relief. Jaffar Hussain from Melan said that many people from villages were trapped at Kishtwar and said that there is no transport available to the people. He said that in many areas of Trigham, there is no electricity as the transmission line has developed some technical snag. He said that due to continuous curfew, the PDD department fails to restore the electricity in many villages. Salman Rabani, student of an Engineering college in Punjab said that he and many of his friends came to Kishtwar to celebrate Eid festival with their family members. He said that due to Eid violence and curfew in the District, he got stuck in the Kishtwar. He said that he had trapped at Kishtwar and was not able to go to Punjab to attend his classes due to continuous curfew and non availability of transportation from Kisht- war to Jammu. He said that his studies had suffered a lot and added that he is desperate to shift from Kishtwar since the college is functioning.
