Jammu, Aug 19: The incessant rains that lashed Jammu region recently have created havoc all around but the so called 'dream project' buildings at Kashmiri Migrant Camp Jagti, housing thousands families of Migrant Kashmiri Pandits have turned to be sandy clusters only.Over flowing rivers and nallahs not only caused flash floods resulting in dilapidated condition of roads and damages to life and property putting people to hardships and great inconvenience but it also shatters the dream of the tenants at Jagti camp who saw the concrete structures turning into percolating structures. While the administration seems to be engaged in dealing warning/cautioning people from going close to the water bodies but it seems in deep slumber in dealing with the issues of those whose lives are at risk in these unsafe structures at Jagti Camp. Most of the buildings at Jagti Nagrota have developed cracks and leakages in roofs and walls, even the plaster on inner and outer walls including ceilings is popping out giving threat to life and property of the inmates.Alleging use of substandard material in construction of these buildings the inmates told Early Times that those people should be booked under law who were responsible for mismanagement and misappropriation of this project. Water supply to the camp is also affected by the flash floods. People alleged that whenever it rains the supply of water to the camp gets affected days altogether. Moreover the link road from Kandoli temple to Jagti camp too is blocked due to landslides forcing people to walk on huge mud track while adding risk to the life of two wheelers.
Expressing grave concern over the situation aftermath the incessant rains, Jagti Tenement Committee and Soan Kashmir Front president Shadi Lal Pandita said, "These buildings will raze to ground like debris if it continues raining for a few days more and take a heavy toll of life and property." "There have been landslides on link road connecting Jagti Camp with Nagrota Bazar adding miseries to the people have to cross the mud track by foot. Nobody from the administration yet has come to see it and make some alternative to ease the problem of commuters," Pandita further added while talking to Early Times. The camp has been already deprived of sufficient supply of electricity despite the High Court order in this regard and now the problems of tenants further have aggravated with irregular water supply to the camp. The much hyped scheme now has turned a white elephant and a flop show because whenever it rains, it stops the function of water supply which remains snapped for couple of days altogether. The inmates have urged State Government to take quick action in solving the genuine problems of KPs in the camp and make necessary arrangements for repairing/renovation of the buildings which may turn into shambles if timely precautionary measures were not being taken.
