Jammu, Aug 19: The Chamber of Commerce and Industries (CCI) was agitating for providing compensation to the traders who have lost their establishments in the recent clashes in the Jammu Division neglecting the losses of rest of the traders who have lost crores of rupees during strikes and curfew for six days.However, the traders, hoteliers, transport and tanker associations have expressed resentment to the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, which has extended the strike call for two days for the compensation to the traders who have lost their shops/establishments in clashes, but neglected the loss of these traders. Inderjit Khajuria, President, All Hotels and lodges Association said, "We have lost more than crore rupees during the last six days, four yatras were going on, this was the season to make some profit but unfortunately we cannot make it." "It will take more than a month to make things normal in Jammu, the chamber should also add the demand of or compensation too," he added.The business community, especially the transporters and shopkeepers, who runs their business with loaned amount have to pay back the interest on daily basis, they are also worried about their losses. Kartar Singh, a transporter said, "We have arrange the installment of vehicle, insurance, road tax, passenger tax on the daily basis, the CCIJ should also consider our losses in their demand to the Government." All the business establishments from a ration shop to petrol pumps were closed in Jammu since Saturday and every citizen of Jammu province have lost their earnings. The tanker and petrol pump association have suffered financial loss to the tune of more than Rs 35 lakhs during strikes. Anan Sharma, Tanker and Petrol Pump association said, "Everyone have lost their daily earnings due to strike and curfew, The CCIJ should add our compensation also with the trader who have lost their establishment." "The Government is not sincere about giving compensation to the traders, the compensation which was agreed by the Government in 2008 is still pending, and how we can expect compensation for this loss?" he added. YV Sharma, president CCIJ said, "We cannot access the loss of traders and transporters due to strike and curfew, we are only demanding the actual compensation for the traders who have lost their establishments in clashes." "The traders bear the loss in these circumstances, only an ideal Government can compensate these kind of losses, but we are not in that stage," he added. |
