No let up in ceasefire violations from Pakistan

Jammu/ Rajouri, Aug 19: With no let up in the ceasefire violations from across the other side of border, the Pakistan has been violating the ceasefire for the last 24 hours by targeting forward area including civil population and border posts in Balakot and Mendhar sectors with small, automatic weapons and mortar shells. For the last 10 days Pakistan army have been using small, automatic weapons and mortar firing to target the civil as well as border posts manned by different units. According to the sources more than 15-20 mortar shells fired from across the border have hit some houses and fields in Sandot, Balakot , Basoni etc areas which has caused fear and anguish against the Pakistan army among the inhabitants of these areas.
A mortar fired from across the LoC at about 9.30 pm on Sunday hit near the kitchen of retired CRPF inspector Mohd Mehfooz and the family of 9 souls including 2 year boy had a narrow escape.
Defence sources also said that the firing from across the border continued till 1 am on Monday and it again resumed at about 2:30 pm today evening. Mohd Mehfooz said that for more than 12-14 they remain inside their houses as they are facing this situation after a gap of more than 19 years of peace followed by truce agreement in 2003. According to latest reports pouring in from Balakot, Basoni areas Pakistan army once again resorted to firing from across the border at about 8.30pm today but was not confirmed by the army.
Meanwhile confirming the incident Col RK Palta , Public Relation Officer (Defence) Jammu, said, "Our troops had an effective retaliation in the evening and no report of any causality or damage reported so far on our side.'
