JAMMU, Aug 19: Police have summoned some revenue officers for questioning after Nowabad Police unearthed a fake Housing and Cooperative Society, which had duped the people of Ladakh to the tune of over Rs 50 lakhs allegedly by selling them a spread of government land at Jagti in Nagrota. As per sources Nowabad police summoned revenue officers for questioning after it busted a fake Housing and Cooperative Society, following complaints as it had duped the people of Ladakh to the tune of over Rs 50 lakhs allegedly by selling government land at Jagti in Nagrota. "After scrutiny of documents seized from the office of the Society at Tallab Tillo, the police came to know that the land was sold with the active connivance of the revenue officers, though their names have not been revealed," sources said further adding, "that raids at the residences of some revenue officers has been conducted till late hours." Pertinently police conducted the raid at the office of the society named as 'Welcome Housing and Building Cooperative Limited ' which was being run from Vishal Nagar, Talab Tillo by a woman named as Prem Lata wife of Tejinder Arora, a resident of Vishal Nagar. The accused lady was reportedly absconding, they added. Sources however added that meantime raids were conducted by police after getting a report of the fake housing society, police managed to nab only one office bearer of the said Society Manik Malhotra, a resident of Priyadarshani Nagar, Talab Tillo, who claimed himself to be Secretary of the Society. "Other members of the Society, identified namely as Tajinder Arora of Vishal Nagar, Talab Tillo, Dhani Ram of Kabir Colony, Talab Tillo and Lalit Slathia of Nagrota are still absconding," they added. Police said the fake Cooperative Society office bearers had been cheating innocent Ladakhis by selling them Government land in connivance with the then Tehsildar and Patwari of the area. They had collected Rs 50 lakh from Ladakhis for the Government land. Nowabad police have registered a case against the accused.
