| Sham reviews drinking water, irrigation scenario in Jammu division | | | et report Jammu, Aug 19: Minister for PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control, Sham Lal Sharma today reviewed status of various ongoing development projects and schemes as well as action taken in the previous meeting. The meeting was attended by Chief Engineer, PHE, K K Gupta, Chief Engineer, I&FC, Varinder Badyal, Chief Engineer, Ravi Tawi, H C Terath, SE Hydraulic, Rajesh Malhotra, SE Mechanical, Sunil Gupta, all SEs and Executive Engineers of PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control Jammu division. The meeting held detailed discussion on various aspects relating to the development of new PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control schemes in the uncovered areas across the Jammu division. He also took stock of drinking water supply and demand functioning of irrigation tube wells, works taken up for the revival of traditional water bodies and ponds water quality testing at PHE, installations action plan for new schemes water supply to every schools progress on Chenab water supply scheme functioning of communication and capacity development unit installation of water meters status of Surinsar, Mansar, Dansar and Nai Gud Schemes, provide of modern ki --- to PHE field functions, the Minister also review the irrigation sector and took stock of Hans Canal, Naigud, Veeripatlan as well as Kathua Canal. The Minister reviewed overall situation due to recently flood in irrigation and flood control department in Jammu division. He was inform by the concerned Chief Engineer that Rs. 3 crore damaged in flood and irrigation sector. He directed the concerned authorities to submit their area wise damaged report with video and photographer to the concerned DDC and said that government has already given instruction to concerned Divisional Commissioner and District Development Commissioner to undertake these damaged cause in CDF. In PHE sector Rs.20 crore losses and 1100 souvees damaged flood have been registered in various district including Jammu and in this connection some district report is awaited and workout is done within a days. He was inform that some areas save sun talk, previsition tanks and water pipes washed away and totally damaged and temporary restoration work have been done by the concerned department. He also take feedback from the Executive Engineers including Rajouri, Poonch, Udhampur, Kathua, Ramban, Reasi, Samba and Jammu in PHE sector, supply and demand. He was inform that some towns as well as rural and hilly areas the source of water and water pipes is totally damaged and for this purpose the immediate restoration works will be started now to provide safe drinking water to the common people. The Minister while getting feedback about the present status of the above discussed issues stressed upon the Chief Engineers of PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control as well as Ravi Tawi Irrigation Department Jammu to personally monitor functioning of various ongoing schemes and activities of the field functionaries as well as AEEs, AEs and JEs for the smooth functioning of the system so that the people do not face any difficulties due to these essential services. Sham said that access to safe drinking water is the right of every common man and the government is committed to reach out the facility of clean drinking water to each nook and corner of the state. He directed all the executive engineers to submit their progress report and action taken of various development programme to their concerned CEs with detail of the ground level monitoring and improvement undertaken their field staff so as to ensure better delivery of service to people.
The Minister issued directions to the concerned engineers to take preventive measures for safeguarding the various plants from the flood waters. He also directed for regular test checks of water in the laboratory to ensure safe drinking water to the people delivering these raining session. He said every head of the institutions will be accountable for the functioning of their establishments and they have to maintain the transparency and efficiency in the overall functioning. The Minister take feedback the Di-syphon of Tawi canal ant Balole Nallaha because this canal some portion were damaged to the recently flash flood. He directed the concerned engineers to take up the restoration works on war footing and make a comprehensive plan to check any such damages in future.
He asked the engineers to personally monitor the restoration work an traditional water reservoirs, ponds as there would greatly help in meeting the water requirements. He said that government was committed to upgrade the existing infrastructure of PHE and irrigation so that the people of the state get safe drinking water and irrigation facilities to the farmers community. He said that agriculture is life line of the state's economy as more then 80% population is directly or indirectly engaged with this important sector. He instructed the concerned engineers and officers to formulate a comprehensive plan for the revival of irrigation canals traditional reservoirs, prevention of rain water and check dams to improve the ground water table. |
