| Kathua farmers hold protest against district administration | | | Early Times Report
Kathua, Aug 20: A large numbers of farmers held protest demonstration against the district administration and few people of the locality for causing harassment and threats in order to snatch their land today at DC office Kathua. The farmers and owners of a piece of 59 kanals land on the bank of Sahar Khud Kalibari Kathua, which is being allotted to them by the district administration against the land given for the construction of a campus of University of Jammu. The protestors, Hem Raj and Mustaq Sharma said that the University of Jammu Division to address the academic need of the district falling in Jammu Division, in the first phase the university intends to construct Mini Technology Campus in District Udhampur and Kathua with the grant sanctioned by the university Grants Commission out of the PM's Fund. The government of Jammu and Kashmir has also mentioned his determination to establish two mini campuses each in both the universities i.e University of Jammu and University of Kashmir. The University, therefore, needs an area of over 300 kanals in District Kathua for setting up its Mini Technology Campus. They said that they started to take possession some locals threatened us and even used the police force to demolish the structure which is going to be constructed in our allotted land they alleged. They asked the district administration why our possession is being objected while all the revenue records of the land have been prepared by itself district administration then how these wrong elements used the police force to treat us. |
