Mustansir SRINAGAR, Aug 20: A major reshuffle in police administration is on cards in the state. Official sources said the State Government is expected to reshuffle its police administration in next few days. Official sources told Early Times that the team of Cabinet Ministers that visited Kishtwar to assess the ground situation in the wake of communal clashes of 9 August, has recommended some changes in the police administration in Jammu Division which would certainly impact the Kashmir region also because the team has recommended shifting of at least one senior police officer from Kashmir. If the sources are to be believed the delegation, comprising Deputy Chief Minister, Tara Chand, Minister for PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control Sham Lal Sharma, Rural Development Minister, Ali Mohammad Sagar, Medical Education Minister, Taj Mohiuddin and some senior leaders of BJP and other parties, have recommended shifting of DIG North Kashmir Jaipaul Singh to Doda. Sources even said the Government is also mulling to shift IGP, Jammu Rajesh Kumar and replace him by Prithvi Raj Manhas who is presently IGP (Armed wing) and vice versa. They said Ashkoor Wani, DIG, Doda may be shifted to North Kashmir. "If every thing goes well the reshuffle will be ordered in the next Cabinet meeting to be held here in Srinagar", sources said adding, "However, in case the meeting is not held the decision would be taken next week". However, authenticity of the report could not be verified from higher ups. They said, the Cabinet may also order postings of newly promoted SPs who are awaiting orders since last one month or so. After clearance from the home department, the Government will have to issue posting orders of the promoted SPs. Minister for PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control, Sham Lal Sharma said the team has not recommended anything as yet but added that people from both the communities who met the delegation have complained that the then DC and SP failed in taking timely action. "People from both the communities expressed their dissatisfaction over the handling of situation by the then Deputy Commissioner and SP Kishtwar" Sharma told Early Times. The PHE Minister said that after assessing the ground situation, the team has decided to recommend some corrective measures which may include some more changes in the police and civil administration in the region. |
