Imposition of Governor rule the only solution, says Bhim
Kishtwar gory incident

JAMMU, Aug 20: The August 9 gory Kishtwar incident has triggered a fierce debate in the political circles. Almost all the parties, barring the NC and the Congress, have been expressing the view that the Omar Abdullah-led coalition Government failed to discharge its duty on August 9 to maintain communal harmony in Kishtwar and other areas and that it has outlived its utility. It was perhaps the first occasion in 65 years when the Indian lawmakers, barring those belonging to the Congress, the NC and the NCP, condemned in one voice the Omar Abdullah Government and held it directly responsible for what happened that day.
The political response the avoidable Kishtwar incident evoked in Jammu province was as sharp as that of Indian lawmakers. The people across the province observed a complete bandh for more than three days. It was this response that forced the State Government to impose and enforce curfew all over the province, which continued for almost one week, and block internet service. In between, many people violated the curfew and held protest demonstrations both against the NC and the Congress demanding dismissal of Omar Abdullah Government and resignation of and stringent action against MoS Home Sajjad Ahmad Kitchloo, who hails from Kishtwar. They were expressing the view that what happened at Kishtwar was a State sponsored onslaught on the minority community. What led them to reach this conclusion was the Chief Minister's comparison of Kishtwar with Gujarat. In fact, the Chief Minister's tweets strengthened the belief of the people of Jammu province that some elements in the civil and police administration and Government were directly involved in the anti-minority game plan.
Even after 11 days of the incident, the debate continues unabated. Only on August 19, JKNPP chief patron Bhim Singh lambasted the Omar Abdullah Government and demanded its dismissal and imposition of Governor rule in the state, saying this is the only alternative left to restore peace and communal harmony in the affected and other areas. "Governor NN Vohra (should) exercise his subjective satisfaction about the total failure of the coalition Government headed by tweeting Chief Minister Omar Abdullah by invoking Section 92 of the J&K Constitution", he said, adding that "Omar Abdullah has failed on all fronts and cannot handle administration and maintain law and order in the State".
Bhim Singh also revealed that last week he had "pleaded with the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh that Governor Rule in J&K was only way out to save the state from further death and destruction which has become the rule of law since Omar Abdullah was 'crowned' as Chief Minister of the unfortunate people of the state" and accused Omar Abdullah of not identifying himself with the affected people of Kishtwar. "He failed to visit Kishtwar when it was demolished by the mob on the Eid Day. He has been sending his emissaries and Ministers to pacify the agitating public. He has no time to separate himself from his computers, facebook or twitters," he said.
The JKNPP leader also did not approve of his move to send Ministers to Kishtwar and described it as a meaningless exercise. "He is dispatching his outdated, corruption ridden and unwanted Ministers to visit the spots which were burning because of the apathy of his administration," said Bhim singh. So much so, he urged the students and youth to socially boycott the Congress and the NC. "People of J&K, particularly the youth and the students should go in for 'social boycott' of the legislators of the ruling National Conference and Congress as a reminder of their failures and omissions and commissions they have been committing to disturb the social and communal harmony of the state," he said. His whole refrain was that "all secular, democratic and nationalist political parties and social groups as well as individuals must stand together to save communal harmony in the state and defeat the forces of corruption, communalism and opportunism". There is a point in what he said while denouncing the State Government and demanding imposition of Governor rule.
