| Urban Local Bodies Employees present memorandum to Div Com on second day of agitation programme | | | Jehangir Rashid
SRINAGAR, Aug 20: Normal work continued to be affected in the municipal committees and councils across the Kashmir valley as the two day agitation programme announced by the Urban Local bodies employees concluded on Tuesday. The employees carried out the two day strike in support of their demands on Monday and Tuesday. Meanwhile, scores of employees of local bodies' submitted a memorandum to Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Shailender Kumar and urged him to intervene in the matter. They also appealed the Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir to use his good offices and impress upon the state government to fulfill the demands of the local bodies that according to them are pending for a long time.This morning scores of employees assembled at the Old Secretariat here and raised slogans in favour of their demands. The protesters resorted to high pitch sloganeering and caught the attention of people present there. The protests carried on more than one hour and during this time some of the employee leaders addressed the protesters.From Old Secretariat the protesters carried out a march towards the office of Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir and presented a memorandum to him containing the demands. The protesters while submitting the memorandum apprised the Divisional Commissioner of the problems being faced by them due to the non-disbursal of salaries for the past six months. "The Divisional Commissioner was patient enough to listen to us and he passed on directions to his private secretary to write a letter to Commissioner/Secretary, Housing and Urban Development Department so that our demands are conceded at the earliest. At the same time the employees suspended their work and did not attend to their duties," said Manzoor Ahmad Pampori, Chairman Urban Local Bodies Employees United Forum (ULBEUF). Pertinently Urban local bodies' employees carried out protest demonstrations at the various district headquarters along with the protests at Directorate office and the premises of Civil Secretariat on Monday. The protesters raised slogans in support of their demands and accused the state government of resorting to dilly dallying tactics in fulfilling the demands.It would be in place to mention here that the salary of employees of urban local bodies' are withheld for the last six months. They are also demanding for the implementation of service rules and reorganization in the department, release of before budget according to service rules and reorganization, release of arrears of 6th pay commission, framing of seniority list of every cadre, issuance of SRO 43 and time bound cases, DPC at divisional and state level regularization of adhoc daily wagers and consolidated workers in the department. The ULBEUF has set the deadline of August 24 for the government to fulfill their demands failing which they have threatened to carry out the Jail Bharo programme on August 26. They have carried out various meetings with the government higher ups in the past in connection with their demands. The employees also carried out various agitation programmes in support of their demands while urging the government to concede their demands. |
