10/15/2013 10:17:43 PM
Et Report

Jammu, Oct 15: EP Tenants Welfare Society staged a protest under the leadership of president EPTWSR Inder Mohinder Tar Singh against the atrocities by the custodian department and an effigy of the same was torched by the protestors who raised slogans "Hum Kaya Chahatey Hain…Insaaf", "Custodian Department Bandh Karo Bandh Karo", 'Lekay Rahein Gay Apna Haq" , "Malakana Haq Lekay Rahein Gay" etc.
An effigy of custodian department and J&K Government was torched by the protestors amidst slogans. The anger and anguish could be read from helpless victims from Ranjan Morah Sandya nallah.
While addressing the massive gathering and the media persons present during the occasion Tar Singh said that many helpless tenants and the farmers are being tortured by the department which is of no relevance and the same should be wound up.
This is not new we have received such reports from Bishnah, R.S.Pura, Rajouri and other places where people have been victimized.
He said the solution to such victimization is "ownership rights" on houses and land in our favour.
We have been informed by the nine families which comprise of over sixty (60) members are being harassed since 2012 by the then custodian who was in habit of allotting custodian land to land mafia and other blue eyed persons. We used to get reports earlier in this regard but this fresh case is an eye opener.
It is quite unfortunate that the nine families are totally dependent on the said land but the high headedness of the then custodian Abdul Majid Wani have brought them on the road.
The ancestors of these families used to possess the same land even before the partition of the country as Nanak Chand s/o Tottu Ram the great grand father followed by Tummu Ram and Dharam Chand both sons of Nanak Chand and grand fathers of the victims used to harvest the land and now Ram Dass and Prem Chand sons of Tummu Ram and Dharam Chand alonwith other brothers and cousins are in possession of the said land and had been harvesting the same to meet their day to day basis needs and necessities. The land in question comprises of total of 127 kanals and 8 marlas from khasra no. 1443 to 1450, 1451 and 1456. Tar Singh said that we fail to understand that the law of land is not being cared by handful land grabbers and land mafia and these people are openly threatening the victims. If this happens then we smell a situation like Kishtwar and Rajouri shall be created in Jammu district too. They urged upon Omar Abdullah chief minister to intervene personally and come forward to the rescue of the hapless and innocent victims and their victimisation should end.
