Shortage of teachers affects education in Vijaypur
10/15/2013 10:55:00 PM
Arun Singh

Jammu, Oct 15: The real picture of education in government schools can be gauged from the fact that many high schools and high secondary schools in block Vijaypur of district Samba are functioning with low strength of teachers.
Sources told Early Times that High Secondary School (HSS) Raya in tehsil Vijaypur of District Samba is running with only two teachers, similarly the condition of other schools in Vijaypur is equally disturbing.
The quality of education in government schools has always remained in criticism due to indifference of the authorities. These schools are lagging far behind from private educational institutions in our state directly impacting pass percentage which is degrading each passing year," they said.
They further said that an applicant had filed an RTI seeking total number of teachers working in government schools in block Vijaypur of district Samba.
As per RTI reply provided by ZEO Vijaypur under vide No. ZEO/V/2727-28 dated 4/10/2013, it was informed that High School Patti is functioning with only three teachers, Higher Secondary School Raya is running with two teachers, there are only seven teachers in High School Suchani, High Secondary School Nud is having seven number of teachers, High School Sunjwan is running with seven teachers, High School Birpur is functioning with only nine teachers. The information further said that there are total 152 government schools functioning in block Vijaypur including 141 primary schools, 3 higher secondary schools and 8 high schools but senior schools are ostensibly running with shortage of teaching staff, they added.
Pertinently, earlier RTI applicant had filed an application to ZEO Vijaypur block seeking information about the total number of schools and teachers in Vijaypur block of district Samba but it failed to provide required information, applicant moved an application to first appellate authority the Directorate of School Education. But after few days, ZEO sent total incomplete information to seekers in hurriedly.
