| Omar contemplating to contest Parliamentary polls……… | | Ishfaq Jabbar to contest from Ganderbal | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Oct 15: As the preparedness for polls next year has begun in the initial phase in all political parties, the grapevine has something interesting to offer: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah is contemplating to contest Parliamentary elections for Srinagar-Budgam MP seat. In Ganderbal, the traditional political constituency wherefrom Omar has been contesting Assembly polls would be given to Sheikh Ishfaq Jabbar, a fresh entrant into NC from Congress who has considerable hold in the constituency and therefore remains safe for NC. Sources say that amid the poll activity commenced with deliberations and assessment taking rounds with the party, the NC high command , mainly the Abdullahs are seriously considering that Omar instead of contesting the Assembly elections may try his electoral fortunes from the Parliamentary turf , Srinagar seat being safe for him in many ways. Sources also said the party leadership has conveyed it to Ishfaq. Considered to be a big political gun in Ganderbal wielding strong influence over the electorate , that he should start preparations for contesting the Assembly polls scheduled next year. While Ishfaq Jabbar's poll activity would also be beneficial for the Omar 's Parliamentary fight , the decision if implemented would mean a lot of changes on ground in the political spectrum of the state. Since the Lok Sabha Polls would be held early, sometime in May, it would mean Omar relinquishing the chair of Chief Minister few months ahead of completion of tenure as Centre has been insisting that Assembly polls in J&K would be held at its own time, which means not before October-November. Sources said NC high command is prompted to contemplate this move after reviewing possible changes in scene after 2014 grand battle both at the Center as well at state level. However, nothing has yet been finalized though insiders in NC confirm it that Omar is not prepared to take the risk of goings to hustings from ancestral political constituency mainly due to anti incumbency wave riding high all across the Valley. Sources also said that Ishfaq Jabbar, who joined NC around three months back is apparently more than happy about the move which may take shape of final decision anytime soon now. He has started working hard in consolidating the cadres and supporters which he had kept in order for Congress hitherto changing the party. Pertinently, he quit Congress despite persuasion from high command as he felt deeply betrayed by the party in not giving him an assured berth in the Upper House. He was promised by the leadership which at the last minute dramatics of Congress went in favour of GN Parray early this year. |
