Sports Reporter JAMMU, Nov 14: The combined side of Post Graduate (PG) Departments of Arts today lifted the inter-college men's hockey trophy beating high spirited and equally good, Government Degree College (GDC) Kathua in penalty shoot-outs at University of Jammu (JU) ground, here. Earlier, the well contested final ended in a goalless draw in the stipulated time with the result, the organizers applied tie-breaker rule to decide the fate of the title clash through penalty shoot-outs. And, to the dejection of the formidable GDC Kathua, PG Arts emerged winner making it 3-2 on the board. Charanjit Singh, Sunil Sharma and Sumit Khajuria were successful shooters in penalties while Manoj and Mohd Imran missed the target from winners PG Arts. Similarly, from GDC Kathua, Tanvir Singh, Manav Sharma and Arun Chib failed to convert their attempts on the net while Vivek Sharma and Kashish Sharma successfully beat the advancing guard at the net. Earlier, during the stipulated time and later in penalty shoot-outs, PG Arts goal-keeper, Aman Khajuria played an important role in foiling numerous opponent goal attempts, including three consecutive penalty corners. In the final, Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu, Prof MPS Ishar was chief guest, who witnessed the game and interacted with both the teams. He presented winners running trophy to PG Arts. Director Sports and Physical Education, JU, Prof Dhian Singh Bhau presided. Among others present were president College Teachers Association (CTA), Prof Avinash Gupta, Jai Kumar Sharma, Ashok Kumar, Vinay Thusu, Nisha Sharma, Sanjeev Jawmal, Gagan Kumar, Ravish Vaid, Raj Kumar Bakshi and Vikas Kalopia. The final was officiated by the technical penal including Dalvinder Singh, Jagjit Singh, Joginder Singh, Mahesh Sharma, Jasbir Singh and PD Singh. |
