Kulgam, Nov 14: Humpathri; a hamlet in South Kashmir's Noorabad constituency which is represented by National Conference leader Sakeena Itoo who is also the Social Welfare Minister, continue to suffer as the village is without electricity for over 25 years. According to locals, the village comprising over 70 families continues to suffer because of the apathetic attitude of public representative (MLA) and department towards the village for their affiliation with the PDP. Locals said that village was electrified till militancy started and after militancy erupted in 1988-89 unknown miscreants started stealing the electric wire in the village and with the passage of time wooden electric poles were also ruined. "We have no electricity ever since onset of militancy in the area in 1988-89," Ghulam Rasool Malik, sarpanch of village Humpathri told ET. He said that after their repeated pleas, Power Development Department in PDP-Congress regime electrified half portion of the village called Bunehpathri and since then their pleas are being totally ignored. "Whenever our MLA Sakeena Itoo visits our village we beg in front of her for electricity but she has done nothing except empty recurring as we continue to suffer." Sarpanch alleged. He said that being sympathizers of People's Democratic Party village is being ignored by the MLA while as the department continues to obey her dikats. "We came to know that the far-flung areas of the state are being electrified under centrally sponsored schemes but we fail to understand why our village isn't being covered under such scheme." Mudasir, a college student said. He said that they have to travel to the neighbouring village every day for charging their electronic gadgets including mobile phones. Locals have Urged Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to intervene into the issue personally as they believe they are being made victims of political vendetta. |
