Early Times Report

Jammu, Nov 15 : Appreciating the efforts of state government, particularly of Revenue Minister Ajaz Ahmed for taking cognizance of legitimate settlement issues of DP's of various categories of 1947, 65,71 and west Pakistan refugees Gurdev Singh President of Jammu Kashmir Sharnarthi Action Committee (JKSAC) in a statement issued today said that the package for Rs. 7000 crore being drafted for the one time settlement by the state government, is unjustified as material and physical loss they have suffered for a long span of 66 year have not been taken into consideration .
"DP's have been deliberately allowed to live in distress, neglect and uncertainties and they have been left uncared till date" said Singh and added that all the categories' of DP's / refugees have their own tale of suffering and distress but DP's of 1947 from POK has suffered untold physical and material loss as compared to other categories. I fail to understand that Kashmiri Migrants have been given approximately 25000 crore so far besides other concessions and where as 7000 crore package is being framed to accommodate all the categories of refugees of 1947 is totally unjustified and illogical. He added that DP's are not jealous of Kashmiri Migrants being doled out liberally and lavishly rather we wish that they should get more. He express his concern for such disparity and condemned that government, for not applying the same yardsticks for accommodating the DP's of 1947. He demanded that package drafted separately for each category of refugees keeping in view their material and physical loss. He further demanded Rs. 30 lakh relief package for 31683 families of 1947 of POK besides employment package, reservation in job in State and Central government/Private sector across the country, reservation in technical institutions, de-freezing of 8 assembly seats out of 24 seats reserve for POK, reimbursement of Rs. 2500-with interest deducted out of ex-gratia grant as cost of land in 1960.
He asked the DP's not to get swayed away by misleading speeches of people who did nothing for DP's when they were in power being a part of government, and now are trying to become 'messiah' of DP's for their own political motives.and many more. He warned the government, not to draft any such package without taking into confidence ail the DP's organizations and if done so DP's will retaliated with full might as all the organizations have pledged and join hand to do away with injustice done to them.
