| Azad's political mission in Kishtwar fails, turns out only a bid to assuage wounds | | | Asif Iqbal Naik KISHTWAR, Nov 15: In a bid to sort out the serious differences between the people of the two communities of Kishtwar district that emerged in the aftermath of August 9 Kishtwar communal clashes, the visit of former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister and Union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad's two day visit to Kishtwar paid dividends as he (Azad) successfully managed to bring the people of both the communities together during his five hour long mammoth public meeting at New Deputy Commissioner (DC) Office Complex Kishtwar and also during a dinner organized by Congress MLA Ghulam Mohammad Saroori at his residence in which over 200 people from both the communities associated with different political parties and social organization participated. But to the utter surprise, Union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad failed to bring the two factions of the Congress together. Azad who is eyeing his return to Jammu and Kashmir politics ahead of 2014 elections tried his best to keep the leaders of both the factions, one led by Ghulam Mohammad Saroori considered close to him and other faction headed by Pardeep Singh Parihar considered close to JKPCC President Saif-ud-Din Soz happy and accommodate both in his busy and tight schedule as none of the leaders from either group attended each other's feast. Azad after finishing the public meeting along with MP Chowdhary Lal Singh attended the tea party organized by District President Congress Kishtwar Pardeep Singh Parihar and his associate at Tourist Reception Centre and held a meeting with them. District President Congress apprised the Union Health Minister about the pre and post violence situation in the district. He told that during the recent communal violence the DCC made every efforts for maintaining communal harmony in the district and assured him that in future the campaign for peace and brotherhood launched by the Kishtwar Congress will continue and the communal forces will not be allowed to succeed in their ill designs. Beside Parihar, Advocate Sheikh Nasir Hussain former DYCC President, Haji Ghulam Hassan Mir Block President Kishtwar, Piyare Lal Shan former Gen Secretary PYC, Sadiq Wani Block President Warwan, senior leaders Mohammad Aslam Malik, Zaffar Ali Dolwal, Sardar Narinder Singh, Abdul Latif Chobdar, Mohammad Iqbal, Dev Raj, Parkash Ram Sharma, Irshad Ahmad Sheikh, Touseef Iqbal, Parkash Singh, Dheeraj Parkash, Hans Raj Bhagat, Raj Kumar Badyal and Ghulam Rasool also put forth their views before Azad. After acknowledging the Soz faction of Congress, Azad along with Lal Singh rushed to the residence of MLA Inderwal Ghulam Mohammad Saroori who hosted a dinner party in his honor and named it as "Diwali-Eid Milan Party". Saroori's dinner party was attended by majority of prominent citizens, politicians, and senior Congress leaders like Sheikh Ghulam Haider, Abdul Subhan Kichloo, Thakur Jughal Bhandari, Raj Kumar Badyal, Mahinder Singh Parihar, Satish Kumar and senior officers from civil administration, army and police. During the course of the dinner party, Azad shared some lighter moments with the invites and expressed his happiness over the participation of large number of people from both the communities in dinner party as well as the meeting. With the failure of Azad in bringing the two factions close, the infighting between the two groups of the Congress will continue to haunt the party. |
