| J&K innings tumble after confident start | | Col C K Nayudu U-25 Cricket | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Nov 15 : The hope of a big total probably missed by the middle order batsmen, who gave away their wickets without showing any resistance to leave J&K tumble from 172 for one to 219 for six in 89.4 overs at the end of opening day play against Assam in the Col C K Nayudu under-25 Tournament at GGM Science College Hostel Ground, here today. It was experienced speedster, MR Das, who caused much of the damage to hosts batting line, took away four wickets for 80 runs in 23 overs. Earlier, J&K won the toss and decided to bat first. The first wicket fell in the shape of opener, UN Mir (04) with score on board was just nine runs. However, Divya Pratap and Pranav S Gupta dared the bowlers and played all through the three sessions to take the innings to new heights. Both together added 163 runs for the second wicket stand bringing the score to 172 runs. Unfortunately, Pranav missed the much deserved century when he was caught by Sajad Khan off R D Sandhwal at 93. Pranav hit 13 hits to the fence in his 245 minutes stay on the wicket. Divya Partap too fell in the trap of visiting bowlers and was caught behind by R L Das off MR Das at 74 (9x4). The loss of two well settled batsmen put the side under pressure. It resulted into J&K lost two more wickets at a same total of 180. By the time, J&K understand the strategy of the Assam bowlers and called it a day, hosts were already struggling at 219 for six in 89.4 overs. When the stumps were drawn, AR Khan was batting at 27. |
