Srianagar, Nov 15 : Temperature continued to dip in Jammu and Kashmir on Friday, as the minimum temperature of the state's summer capital, Srinagar, fell to -2.6°Celsius (C), a meteorologiocal department official said.
The summer capital recorded the season's coldest night as the mercury was recorded at three degrees below normal for this time of the year. This was the fourth consecutive day that minimum temperature was below the freezing point in Srinagar.
The Ladakh province town of Leh, meanwhile, continued to be the coldest place in the state. The town recorded a low of -11°C, the official said.
Kargil, another town in Ladakh, was the second
coldest place in the state with a low of -6.6°C, the official said. Pahalgam, which serves as a base camp during the annual Amarnath pilgrimage in south Kashmir, recorded a low of -5°C, he said.The minimum temperature at Gulmarg was -3°C. Kupwara, too, recorded a low of -3.3°C.
Kokernag was the only place in Kashmir where the minimum was above the freezing point at 0.3°C, the official said. The meteorological department has forecast mainly dry weather across Kashmir division over the next 24 hours. |
