Early Times Report

SRINAGAR, Nov 15: All Parties Sikh Coordination Committee (APSCC) has expressed concern over the enforcement of restrictions on Muharram processions by state government.
The Committee has asked the people at helm to handle the religious matters with care so that sentiments of people are not hurt.
In a statement, APSCC Chairman, Jagmohan Singh Raina said that people should be allowed to carry out their religious obligations without any interference from the state government. Jagmohan said that religion is held in high esteem and as such the state government should not impose restrictions on processions like the one carried out during the month of Muharram by Muslims especially Shia Muslims.
"On one side the state government should allow the Muharram processions being carried out and on the other side people should be vigilant about the elements who want to create trouble during such processions. A handful of people are enough to create fuss during such religious processions and as such the majority should be aware about such disruptive elements," said Jagmohan.
APSCC Chairman said that members of minority communities like Sikhs are by side of the members of majority community during the testing times. He said people of the different communities should live in harmony and peace with each other so that nefarious designs of enemies are defeated.
Referring to the importance of Muharram, Jagmohan said that it was during this month that Hazrat Imam Hussain (AS), grandson of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) offered sacrifice while upholding the principles of truth and justice. He asked people to follow the footsteps of Hazrat Imam Hussain (AS) so that there are minimum cases of confrontation in the world.
APSCC Chairman conveyed his heartfelt condolences to the families of 44 Iraqis who were killed in a violent incident in the morning today. He condemned the attack and demanded stern action against the people who carried out this dastardly act.
