Jammu, Nov 15: The students of the State who are eagerly waiting to get scholarships from the Social Welfare Department, J&K under the ambitious scholarship scheme of Ministry of Human Resource Development (HRD) are up in arms against the state department for an alleged inordinate delay in the process. The students claimed that the department was not showing any keenness to disburse scholarships to the needy aspirants of the state who are unable to bear the expenses for pursuing their studies. "Due to the slow process, many of the students cannot get the benefit. We have appealed the authorities and apprised them about our hardships but nothing significant has been done so far", one of the students told ET on the condition of anonymity. It may be mentioned here that under the Scholarship Scheme for J&K students, the Government of India through its Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) provides tuition fees, boarding and lodging fees (hostel) to the students who enroll themselves in various professional and technical colleges across India which are being recognized by the Union Government. Apart from that, books are also provided to the students at the cost of Government. Payal Verma, a student while sharing her experiences with ET said " This is not the first time that the department has delayed the process and we have no option but to request them to initiate the process".
