Early Times Report Jammu, Nov 15: The NSS volunteers of Government College for Women, Gandhi Nagar, Jammu, celebrated Children’s Day at orphan home, Amphala here on Thursday. A group of about 50 NSS volunteers of College led by NSS programmes officers. Shiveta Gandotra and Shrotika Rajput visited the home for orphans - Bal Niketan. They spent hours together with the orphans while interacting with them, listening and delighting them with songs, poems and speeches to pay rich tribute to Pandit Jawarlal Nehru on his 124th birthday, popularly called as Chacha Nehru due to his extra ordinary love and care towards children. They also distributed gifts, chocolates and other eatables among them. In her message, Kiran Bakshi, principal of the college, said that education of children especially orphans and less privileged will be real tribute to Pandit Nehru. She expressed her hopes that NSS volunteers can play pivotal role in literacy of such children who are future of nation. K K Mehngi, secretary of Ved Mandir Committee thanked the principal, NSS programme officers and NSS volunteers of college for visiting Bal Niketan and celebrating Children Day with orphans. Prominent among others present on the occasion were Nazia Rasool, Deepika Pathania, Deepak, O.P Abrol, Yashpal Sharma, and social activist S.K. Jain president, Vichar Kranti Manch who also conducted the proceedings of program. |
