Sports Reporter JAMMU, Dec 7: Jayesh Singh bagged the men's singles title outplaying Sunpreet in straight sets 11-07, 11-08, 11-07 during final of the 35th Jammu District Table Tennis Championship held at Indoor Complex, MA Stadium, here today. Jayesh also clinched the Youth boys' title beating Ritvik Gupta again in straight sets 12-10, 11-07, 11-06. However, Ritvik emerged junior boys champion beating Sunpreet in a close contest that lasted for full five sets. The score: 12-10, 12-14, 11-09, 09-11, 14-12. The women's singles final won by Shazar Sharma after she trounced Jhanvi straight close sets of 11-08, 11-09, 11-08. In junior girls' event, Jhanvi beat Shreya 3-1 (11-03, 11-07, 08-11, 11-05). Jhanvi, who lost in the women's singles final, won the sub-junior girls event beating Shreya 3-1 (09-11, 11-04, 11-09, 11-09) The veteran men's singles event won by Mahesh Sharma, who beat S Mathew 3-1 (11-09, 09-11, 11-09, 11-08). In the men's finals and prize distribution function, Vijay Bakaya was chief guest. Prominent among others present were VK Magoo, Rajan Sharma, Riaz Ahmed, Narinder Singh, Manmeet Kour, Sunil Sharma, Sheetal Gandotra, Rajan Sharma, Satish Gupta, Sanjay Gupta and Vikas Sharma.
BIS students participate in Roller Skating Competition ET REPORT JAMMU, Dec 7: The students of Banyan International School participated in Roller Skating Competition organized by the Roller Skating Federation of India from 28th of November to 1st of December 2013. Amritpal Singh of Class X got 4 gold medals u-16 category, Kanya Jamwal of Class III bagged 1 gold and 2 silver u-8 category. Skiedeep who participated in the u-6 category clinched 2 gold medals. Nivran in the same category got 1 gold medal. Jasleen who participated in the u-14 category received 1 bronze medal. Arjun Chowdary of banyan International School win the First prize in the essay writing Competition organized by the Interact Club of Model Academy to celebrate World Aids Day held at rotary Club on 30th of dec.2013 . The other two students who participated in the competition were Pritish and Sugandha Gupta.
8 Hosts make 133/3 against Haryana's 332 in U-16 J&K needs 50 more runs to save follow-on Sports Reporter JAMMU, Dec 7: Hosts Jammu and Kashmir still need 50 more runs to save follow-on against Haryana in the Vijay Merchant under-16 Cricket Tournament underway at GGM Science College Ground, here today. At the end of day-two play, J&K were batting at 133 runs for the loss of three wickets in reply to Haryana's 332. Except for follow-on, there hardly seems anything interesting on the third and final day of the play tomorrow as the match heads for a draw. When the stumps were drawn, Dawood Raheel and wicket-keeper batsman, Abhishek Khajuria were at the crease with five and 13 runs in their respective accounts. \Earlier, Tahsin Dar and Sahil Lotra batted well and helped the side bring the score on board to 115 for three after first dismissal at 28. Tahsin and Sahil, who added 86 runs for the second wicket stand, returned to the pavilion losing their wickets in the same over. However, Dawood and Abhishek faced the bowlers patiently and saved the innings from any more loss. From Haryana, leg arm spinner, VN Sharma took all the three (25-19-15-03) wickets. Earlier, resuming their innings from overnight score of 281 for seven, Haryana added 51 more runs to sum up at a total of 332. Batting at 100 runs, MS Hooda lost his wicket at 133 while VV Chugh contributed 16. Rohit Kumar (26-07-61-03) and Momiin Manzoor (34-05-120-03) were the most successful bowlers, who shared six wickets between them.

Earlier, in the first match of the day, Koushal netted four goals, including hat-trick to help Young Rovers blank District Football Association (DFA) Samba 5-0. Koushal struck in 32nd, 52nd, 63rd and 69th minute of the match. Vishal (49th) was other scorer. In this match, vice president of women's wing of National Conference, Satwant Kour Dogra was special guest, who interacted with the teams. To encourage Kathua boys, she promised sports material for the team. Meanwhile, in another match of the day, sailing on superb performance from Karun, Churchill Brothers trounced DFA Kathua 4-1. All the four goals came through Karun, who netted the ball in eighth, 48th, 50th and 55th minute of the match. From DFA Kathua, Sanjeev reduced the margin in the 28th minute. Jodhamal wins Jammu Adventure Sports Club debate Sports Reporter JAMMU, Dec 7: Jodhamal Public School showcased wonderful debating skill to prove their mettle at the 14th Jammu Adventure Sports Club (JASC) Annual debate Competition held at Army Public School, Nagrota. The 16 debaters were pitched against each other in neck to neck competition. Students of JODHAMAL SCHOOL, Raggad Rafiq got the first prize and Shivang Puri clinched the second position. The overall trophy was also won by JODHAMAL. Brigadier DS Tripathi chaired the debate competition with Prem Sahni as the Guest of Honour on the occasion. The debate is held in the memory of Late Sat Paul Sahni, the pioneer news reporter of the State. JASC Debate is a very coveted debate which is an annual feature of the Club. The main aim is to bring the intellect of students from different schools at one platform to prepare the future leaders. Both the students Raggad Rafiq and Shivang Puri were escorted by Radhika Sharma and the Ex Head Boy of JMPS, Abhayjeet Singh Kala. Principal, Trilok Singh Bist lauded the efforts of the team and felicitated the winner in a special assembly. Speaking on the occasion, Aparna Kuthiala, Vice Chairman of the Club gave a brief history of the Jammu Adventure Sports Club. The Chief Guest and the Convener Sarla Kohli appreciated the efforts of all the teams and congratulated Raggad and Shivang Puri of Jodhamal for the perfection with which they delivered their content.
MV International School bags State Speedball Champions Trophy Sports Reporter JAMMU, Dec 7: Maintaining its trend of being in the forefront in sports field MV International School, Vijaypur bagged State Speedball Champions Trophy at M.A Stadium, Jammu. The State Speedball Championship was organized by the Department OF Youth Service and Sports and J & K Speedball Association at M.A Stadium. It was sponsored by M V International School, Vijaypur. The Chief Guest on the occasion was the Minister for Medical Education, Youth Services & Sports Taj- Mohi-ud-Din. The other dignitaries present on the occasion were Director General Youth Services & Sports, Navin Agarwal, Chairman J & K Speedball Association Vijay Gupta, Director M V International School Gaurav Abrol, Principal APS Akhnoor KCS Mehta , Principal MV International B.N. Sarkar and Retd DC Excise Vijay Kumar Sharma. There were a large number of dignitaries and sports lovers involved on the occasion which made the event a very exciting experience. 500 players from 20 schools participated in the championship for two days on 5th and 6th of December. M V International School had a contingent of 60 players and the overall trophy for the best school was won by it. Students have won 8 Gold; 7 Silver & 19 Bronze Medals. Players of M V International School named Ujawal Slathia, Mansi Slathia, Samrita Slathia and Himanshu Sharma claimed first rank in Junior teams. In Under -8, Rohtaj stood 2nd & Abrokin Dingra stood 3rd; in Under-10 Hanshika Jamwal & Nivedita claimed 3rd position; in Under- 12 Rohit stood 1st, Vikas Verma & Adeevi stood 2nd while Atul Sharma bag 3rd position; in Under-14 Kanika Chadgal claimed top rank. In the boys doubles, Vishal & Agrim stood 2nd while Vishav & Sparsh got 4th rank. In girls doubles, Manvi Bandral & Mansi Jamwal got 1st position while Ravinder Kour & Ankita Choudhary stood 2nd .In mixed doubles Aditi & Hari Om bagged 2nd position while Sonia & Pritham settled at 4th. All the participants of the school contributed their best in enabling the school team to win the Champion Trophy. The Director and the Principal of the school congratulated the team for the brilliant performance and assured them that every possible facility will be provided to them in future to win more laurels for the school. The Director appreciated the hard work done by teachers and sports coordinators of the institution.
