Bishnah, Dec 22: In violation to the government fixed rates, the brick manufacturers/Brick Kilns owners are allegedly charges prices much to the chagrin of customers and many locals accused the kiln owners of overcharging for per truck or even per 1000. The people of Bishnah and its adjoining areas allege that Brick Killian owner against fixed government price of Rs 10,600 for per 3000 units of bricks, the owners are charging at their own between Rs 15,500 and 16000/-. Some locals who are involved in construction business allege some of the brick kiln owners even don't provide bill. Many customers said a truckload of bricks costs even more than that when required in the interiors Bishnah. "Bricks have become unaffordable for a common man. It seems the government has given full freedom to the kiln owners to loot the common consumers," said Ranjit Singh a farmer in Bishnah. Another local Vijay Kumar of Pandoria lamented that despite clear cut directions from the government the brick prices witnesses a see saw change courtesy at the wishes of Brick Kiln Owners. It is to mention that senior district officials and Metrological Department Jammu have conducted surprise visits but things have not changed for people for Bishnah, R.S Pura and its adjoining areas. Meanwhile brick manufacturers based in the area have their own reasons like hike of price of required material be it clay, firewood/coal and labour charges. They also pin pointed the hike of fuel price which has increased many a times within last two years and all this proportionally increases the cost factor. If recalled here following a special team of government officers led by Assistant Commissioner, Jammu, has conducted inspections of brick kilns in the R S Pura, Sub Division last year and eight of the 15 brick kilns were booked for various offences under provisions of Labour Laws, Weights and Measurement Enforcement Act and similar numbers of brick kilns were also booked by CAPD for overcharging and for not showing the rate lists and other offences under Essential Commodities Act-1980. But due to the lack of coordination and awareness among the locals about whom to approach about the overcharging, the bricks are being sold at the rates of brick owners choice in and around Bishnah. When contacted an official at Tehsil said that they have not received any such complaint till now and if they received any they will certainly take action against the erring owners. |
