ET Report
Srinagar, Dec 22: Over 100 JCBs are lying idle in Ganderbal district of central Kashmir since the district authorities denied permission to them. The owners of these JCBs have grounded their machines in the district and sitting idle for months together after district authorities swooped upon them and stopped digging of muck etc at the private land where they have been engaged by private parties in leveling the land.
According to sources, the decision has evoked lot of resentment among the JCB owners and people as well.
Sources said while criticizing the decision of authorities not allowing permission to these JCBs in undertaking any private assignment in the area termed it highhandedness on part of authorities. The JCB owners said they have purchased these machines after obtaining loan up to tune of Rs 30 to 40 lakh from the banks and once will be barred from work they will be unable to pay the installment of the loan to banks as their financial position has deteriorated. In an appeal to chief Minister, Omar Abdullah these JCB owners have sought his immediate intervention in the matter. They said as Omar represents the constituency in Assembly he should intervene and sort out the issue.
The JCB owners said that on the one hand the Government is facing unemployment problem in the state and on the other hand it is not ready to cooperate with those people who are trying to solve their unemployment problem with their own efforts.
Sources said that JCB owners have warned to resort to agitation in case the Government failed to grant permission to these JCB owners. Supporting them, Peoples Welfare Association Ganderbal has urged the district authorities to review the decision and the JCBs to work in the district. PWA leader Abdul Ahad said that Government should formulate a policy in this regard. He question grant permission for purchase of such machines when they are debarred from digging the land or taking any private assignment.
He said crores of rupees were spent by these JCB owners in purchasing the machines and by denying permission these JCB owners will be put to heavy loss.
Mir Ghulam Rasool senior PC leader and veteran Trade unionist said this is case in the constituency represented by CM himself and what will be the case with other constituencies.
