| Infighting in Cong likely to be intensified in Kathua as Balbir Singh kick starts activities | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Dec 22: The first meeting of former MLA Balbir Singh at Billawar with his supporters has given much indication that infighting in the Congress would be intensified in Kathua district and a new group would be emerged to create problems for sitting Congress MLA and Minister in the coalition government headed by Omar Abdullah. First time after joining Congress, Balbir Singh convened meeting of his supporters at Billawar on Saturday. Balbir Singh, who was all important general secretary in the People’s Democratic Party, had joined Congress on October 14 this year. Since October 14, he has not visited Billawar Assembly segment which is his home constituency and native place. During this first public meeting Balbir Singh did not uttered a single word against sitting MLA Dr Manohar Lal but his supporters availed this opportunity to highlight backwardness and under development in the constituency. His supporters made direct attack on sitting MLA for his failure to solve day-to-day problems of the common masses. It is believed that infighting in the Congress especially in district Kathua would be further intensified with Balbir Singh also became active in this region. Sources in the Congress said that Balbir Singh has blessing of some senior Congress leaders of the State who have given him consent to activate himself in Billawar Assembly where Dr Manohar Lal is party MLA. Anti-Manohar Lal lobby is rendering all possible help to Balbir Singh to counter the Minister in his home town. Sources said that a Congress faction was already active in Billawar segment to spoil prospect of Dr Manohar Lal in Billawar but that faction was not strong enough to counter popularity of the sitting MLA. "Balbir Singh is a competent politician to counter Dr Manohar Lal at Billawar", a detractor of Dr Manohar Lal Singh said and added that with the blessing of some senior leader Balbir Singh would be able to cut sitting MLA to size. It is pertinent to mention here that Balbir Singh was among 15 prominent leaders who had joined Congress in the month of October this year. Dr Manohar Lal is strong supporter of Union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad so a group in the Congress was trying to disturb him. Activeness of Balbir Singh has given an opportunity to this group to create problems for Dr Lal who is only Congress MLA from Kathua district. |
