Samba, Dec 22: In order to create awareness programme for farmers on "wheat production" under National Food Security Mission (NFSM) was organized in village Dadyal, Zone Ramgarh of Sub-division Samba which was attended by more than 30 farmers. While addressing farmers in the 3rd session training, Dr. M P Gupta, State Consultant highlighted the scenario of food production in J&K State which is 39 per cent deficit to meet State's requirement at present and will become 50% in 2025. Further, he revealed that in spite of decades of extension work in the State, majority of farmers lack motivation; practice broadcast method called "Chatta" for sowing of seed due to less time consuming, easy practice: do not use seed -cum-fertilizer drill for line sowing and uniform germination. Besides, a good number of farmers still grow wheat crop for fodder and make intensive use of urea forgetting other nutrients like P&K required by plants. Dr. Gupta mentioned that 1500 ha area will be covered under cluster demonstration and 70 training courses will be organized during Rabi session in District Samba. In addition, under NFSM provision of incentives on farm machinery, pumps. Improved seeds, etc. have been made and farmers should come forward to avail the subsidy. |
