| The name of state is J&K, not JK | | JKLF's dirty game | | Neha JAMMU, Dec 30: The name of our State is Jammu and Kashmir State, and not Jammu Kashmir. Those who have started calling it Jammu Kashmir are doing it with a purpose. Their ulterior purpose is to mislead the international community by telling it that Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh are one as far as their demand for liberation from India is concerned. But they will not succeed inn their evil game plan. They will be defeated by the people of Jammu and Ladakh and many others in Kashmir, including the internally displaced Kashmiri Hindus. On Sunday, the so-called Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) adopted four resolutions in Srinagar seeking solution to the so-called Kashmir dispute according to the "aspirations of Kashmiris". "We urge the Governments of India and Pakistan to focus on and make all out efforts to address basic and core issue of Jammu Kashmir before discussing other issues like trade, sports that might be of Indian and Pakistani interest. We urge Governments of India and Pakistan to settle core issues of Jammu Kashmir in accordance with the wishes and aspirations of people of JK, so as to put an end to sufferings, as it is only Kashmiris who suffer. Trade can wait, but sufferings of people may not be allowed to continue unhindered.. We urge India and Pakistan to settle the issue of Jammu Kashmir in accordance with the universal principle of self-determination, so as to put an end to injustices, which are going on in Jammu Kashmir state for the last 66 years," the third resolution said. We urge both Governments of India and Pakistan to involve the pro-freedom leadership of Jammu Kashmir who are not against dialogue per se, but are interested in resolving the basic issue of JK which continues to affect their people adversely," these four atrocious and outrageous resolutions, inter-alia, said. Note the words aspirations of Kashmiris and not the words Jammu Kashmir or JK. People of Jammu and Ladakh are not Kashmiris. Similarly, the Gujjars, Bakerwals, and Pathowari-speaking people both in Kashmir and Jammu are not Kashmiris. They are ethnically and culturally different. Likewise, the people of Kargil are not Kashmiris. The fact of the matter is that the ethnic Kashmiris constitute a minority in the state and are vertically divided into several groups putting forth different demands some of which are acceptable and most of them anti-national, divisive and communal. It is a different story that the minority has been ruling the state and exploiting its people since 1947 with the help of the parties like the Congress. In 1949 also an attempt had been made by the pro-autonomy and communal forces in Kashmir to change the name of the State. It was none other than Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru and his close associate Gopalaswami Ayyangar who had tried their level best in the Constituent Assembly of India to undermine the historical importance of Jammu which had ruled over the State of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh for full 101 years by moving a resolution that wanted the Indian Constituent Assembly to adopt the name of the State as "State of Kashmir", but they failed. At least three members of the Constituent Assembly Prof KT Shah from Bihar, Pandit Lakshmi Kanta Maitra from West Bengal and HV Kamath from Central Provinces and Berar put their foot down and opposed the move tooth and nail. Their arguments were so strong that Nehru and Ayyangar were left with no other option but to recognize Jammu's historical importance. All this happened on May 27, 1949. If the self-styled freedom fighters in parts of the Kashmir valley believe that they would succeed in their evil game plan, then it can be said that they are living in a fool's paradise. People of Jammu province and Ladakh regions, besides several religious and ethnic minorities in Kashmir will not allow them to play nefarious games. They must remember that the people of these two historical regions know how to defeat the separatists and pro-autonomy forces. |
