| SHRC urges DC to furnish report | | Slaughter house at Jagti | | Bivek Mathur
Jammu, Dec 30: The Jammu and Kashmir cabinet's approval for transfer of forest land at village Jagti in the year 2009 for establishment of slaughter house has been challenged by the villagers and they have appealed National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) as well as State Human Right Commission (SHRC) for their intervention considering it a case of human rights violation. The villagers have complained that the proposed location for the slaughter house in village Khanpur is just five Kilometers away from village Jagti and at zero distance from the main road. The villagers have also complained that it is also at a few meters from the school, temple and drinking water well which they considered as prime case of human rights violation and have appealed both the state level as well as national level Commission for their intervention in order to stop the construction of the same. The state Human Rights Commission through its members Sardar Amolak Singh and Rafiq Fida had admitted and registered the case as Human Rights violation on 14.12.2013 with case number SHRC/163-J of 2013 and Deputy Commissioner Jammu, Ajit Kumar Sahu has been asked to furnish the factual reports instantly and the next hearing of the case has been fixed before the single bench on 12.02.2014. The Khanpur villagers led by Shambhu Nath, a social activist have maintained in the complaint that the proposed area where slaughter house is to be constructed is at zero distance from school, temple and a drinking water well and owing to the presence of Brahimins in majority near the proposed location, the regligious sentiments of the community are affected. Worthwhile to mention that work has been started for establishment of slaughter house at village Khanpur following which some protests were registered by the locals against the approval of cabinet in 2009 for the transfer of forest land to establish slaughter house there. When protests could not yield successful results, the residents have appealed the commissions for their intervention. |
