| BSNL fast losing customer base due to poor services | | | early times report JAMMU, Jan 7: Though Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), which has the distinction of introducing cellular services in J&K in the year 2003 and which also enjoys largest customer base across the state, yet the largest telecom company of the country has failed to come up to the expectations of its subscribers here. Even after in operation for the last ten years, the state owned telecom company is unable to provide a 'satisfactory' and 'smooth' mobile connectivity to its lakhs of subscribers regardless of its claims to offer a hassle free telephony to its customers. Due to its unsatisfactory service over the years, BSNL- the frontrunner in providing mobile services and other telecom facilities is fast loosing grip on its customers in the state. According to reliable sources, BSNL is losing its hold on existing customers since on an average 5 to 10 subscribers per month are shunning its services both landline and cellular due to various reasons including poor connectivity, call dropping and overcharged bills. Every day, scores of complaints are registered at the BSNL office against poor connectivity, but instead of providing relief to its customers, the authorities turn a blind eye and hardly make any efforts to rectify the problem. With such an indifferent attitude of the BSNL authorities, the customers feel betrayed. Some of the subscribers while talking to Early Times lamented the poor services of the BSNL and said they are facing many problems while using BSNL cellular service. "I am posted in a village in the outskirts of Jammu City but despite its proximity to city the place has a very weak signal… I face lot of problems due to poor connectivity," rued Sunita Bhat, a teacher by profession. "I am fed up with the BSNL service which has failed to improve…. There is no initiative from the largest telecom company to improve its services…. Calls made from cell phones failed to materialize even after several tries and even if it gets connected the voice clarity is not up to mark the mark… Enough is enough, I am now planning to shift to some other mobile service provider," she added. Another subscriber Junaid Khan, a bank employee, said that he is fed up with the erratic services of BSNL for which even lodged several complaints from time to time in this regard, but to no avail. "I have no other option but to choose a new cellular service provider to stay connected with my family, friends and relatives," Khan said. While narrating his bitter experience with the BSNL services, Mohd Yousuf, a government employee having accommodation in Government quarters at Gandhi Nagar said whenever he steps into his residence, his mobile automatically goes on switch off mode. "Most of my friends and relatives complaint of switch off which in fact is not true as I never switch off my phone but thanks to BSNL, it goes on off mode reasons better known to them," Yousuf said.
