| ‘Kangaal’ Govt averse to austerity measures | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Jan 7: The cash starved Government which has no money to pay the bills of contractors and take forward the developmental works seems reluctant to take austerity measures. Not only this every day almost 80 percent Government vehicles enter the airport either to drop or pick up the relatives of Ministers and bureaucrats. It has also been seen that Government vehicles are used by the families of Ministers and babus for holidaying and shopping. There are no austerity measures taken by the Government, neither Ministers nor bureaucrats with respect to travelling in Government vehicles. Though the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) impact is seen in few states where officials and Ministers are trying to show off things that they are not using official vehicles or red beacons, but in Jammu and Kashmir there is no such impact. Similarly, the Chief Minister himself curtailed his visits to different areas through his chopper which gave a relief to the state exchequer but his Ministers and bureaucrats are rigid in this approach. Today, when Cabinet Sub-Committee on new administrative units held a tour to Doda, Kishtwar and Ramban districts, they opted for the chopper. They should have taken the land route to save money and also feel the pain of the sufferers. They must be having an argument that they had to reach out to three districts and it was not possible to reach everywhere by road but they should have chosen one district for one day and could have selected the land route. But they took chopper to reach everywhere and put burden on state exchequer which is already in doldrums. |
