Stranded Marwah passengers hold protest, block cavalcade of Deputy CM

Kishtwar, Jan 7: Stranded passengers from Marwah, Warwan and Dachhan areas of Kishtwar District today held a strong protest at Kishtwar in front of Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand and demanded immediate airlifting of all the stranded passengers who are trapped at Kishtwar due to heavy snowfall.
The angry protesters raised anti government and anti administration slogans saying the the government as well as the local administration are befooling the people in the garb of airlifting them. As per the reports, the angry protesters stopped the cavalcade of Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand when he (Tara Chand) was coming out of Kishtwar helipad to participate in official meeting. The agitating protestors demanded airlifting. Deputy CM assured the protesters that government will make all the arrangements for their airlifting and directed the concerned Deputy Commissioner to make immediate arrangements of airlifting of the stranded passengers.
After assurance from the Deputy CM, the stranded passengers called off the protest. While talking to "Early Times" Ghulam Mohammad, local Sarpanch from Marwah said that majority of the stranded passengers are poor people and students who had arrived at Kishtwar for work done atvarious District offices, beside many are the students who had come to Kishtwar for interviews, examination or admission purpose. "Several officials who are posted in Marwah, Warwan and Dachhan are camping at Kishtwar as a result of which the people are compelled to meet them at Kishtwar for work done" said Ghulam Mohammad. He said that for even a small work in government office, people of these areas were force by the officers to travel to Kishtwar. He said that under normal circumstance, it took two to three days for them to reach homes and added that due to presence of heavy snow cover in the area; it is almost impossible for the people of Marwah belt to reach home. He said that majority of the stranded passengers had even paid an amount of Rs.1500 as ticket charges for airlifting.
He said that in case the administration fails to airlift the stranded passengers, people will start march towards their homes by foot and added that in case of any eventuality the onus will be government as well as the on administration. He said that over 250 people are stranded in Kishtwar, Marwah and Dachhan. It is pertinent to mention that IAF on January 3 of this month airlifted 69 stranded passengers including some patients from Marwah, Warwan and Dachhan.
