Border people demand up-gradation of High School

Jammu, Jan 20: The residents of Border belt of district Samba today staged a protest demonstration on the main road near village Glad, demanding upgradation of High Schools to the level of Higher Secondary schools. According to press release, under the leadership of PDP leader, Sunny Sangral the protesters blocked the main road for hours together and disrupted the vehicular movement. Later, they peacefully dispersed. The PDP leader said that hundreds of students, residing in border belt were forced to travel a distance of 30 kilometer or more on daily basis for their studies at higher secondary level. "There are at least 100 villages in this border belt and nearly two thousand students come to Samba town for taking higher secondary classes as they have no Higher Secondary School in their vicinity," he added. Sarpanch of Glad Panchayat, Ram Pal Sharma informed that populace of border comprises of the migrants of 1971 from Chhamb area. "We have been ignored by the Government on all the fronts. In the entire border belt there are only two High Schools and that too were shifted from Chhamb to Glad after 1971 war. Since then, our children are forced to travel 30 kilometers up and down for further studies after matric which is very unfortunate," he lamented. Lambardar Balbir Singh held successive State Governments and their elected representive from the constituency Yash Pal Kundal responsible for their plight for the past many decades. He mentioned that several leaders from political outfits came to them and assured of upragdation of High Schools to the level of Higher Secondary Schools but none succeeded.
