PoK trade authority suspends cross-LoC transportation services
Demands release of 49 trucks and drivers, which were detained on Friday
1/20/2014 11:54:26 PM
Jammu, Jan 20: Pakistan-occupied Kashmir Travel and Trade Authority (Tata) has suspended the cross-Line of Control (LoC) bus and truck service, demanding India to release 49 trucks and drivers, which were detained on Friday.
The Srinagar-Muzaffarabad bus and truck service has been suspended following Indian-administered Kashmir accusing one of the Tata's trucks of smuggling drugs into the region and detaining several other trucks along with their drivers.
Tata Director General (DG) Brigadier Muhammad Ismail called for introducing a joint mechanism to avoid the suspension of cross-LoC trade, the Express Tribune reports.
Brigadier Ismail blamed the Indian authorities for trying to crush pro-Pakistan elements in Indian-administered Kashmir, who rely on cross-LoC trade for their livelihood
He further said that if authorities on either side of the ceasefire line recover any prohibited items from trucks moving across the LoC, it must be brought into the notice of the other side immediately.
