| State Govt seeks guidance from MHA on LoC drama | | | Mustansir
Srinagar, Jan 20: The Srinagar-Muzaffarabad bus was suspended on Monday following the recovery of a huge quantity of Brown Sugar from one of the Trucks of Pakistan administered Kashmir (PaK) some days back.
Twenty-seven trucks along with their drivers are held in PaK since the LoC trade got a big blow. 48 PaK drivers are also detained in TFC Slamabad in wake of a standoff between the authorities.
Meanwhile J&K government has sought guidance from Home Ministry of India. The request may formally be made by J&K government Monday morning.
"Our officials met their counterparts from the other side but we could not accommodate their request," a senior industry ministry officer said. "We cannot let a person go who had driven 114 kilograms of brown sugar into the state and Pakistan wants him back which is beyond our competence."
The officer said the issue has been referred to the state home ministry on Saturday but there was no immediate follow up because the state home secretary is on leave. The officer said he hopes an early direction on Monday so that there is some breakthrough.
A Pakistani trucker was arrested after his Uri bound cargo contained 114 packets of drugs. Two traders who were supposed to receive the consignment were also arrested along with two truck drivers from Kashmir.
Pakistani authorities neither permit their "incomplete" convoy back into their territory not granted a permission to 27 Kashmiri trucks to return to Slamabad. A meeting of officials failed on Saturday. |
